Tobogganing: 3 competitions, 3 victories – ÖRV crew unbeatable at the start of the World Cup

After Selina Egle/Lara Kipp won the very first World Cup competition in the new Olympic competition women’s doubles, Madeleine Egle followed suit with her sixth World Cup victory in singles. But the men’s doubles shot the bird off with a triple victory led by Juri Gatt/Riccardo Schöpf.

The two celebrated their premiere World Cup victory from second place at half-time by relegating the half-time leaders Thomas Steu/Lorenz Koller to second place by 0.079 seconds. Yannick Müller/Armin Frauscher were only four thousandths of a second behind in third place. The Germans Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (+0.106) and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken (+0.133), accustomed to success, had to line up in fourth and fifth place.

Madeleine Egle turned the tables on last year’s track, which she didn’t really love that much, when she was overtaken by Julia Taubitz after the half-time lead. This time the German fell behind the American Emily Sweeney in third place (+0.248). Only behind did Anna Berreiter (+0.406) and Merle Frabel (+0.466) line up with more of the successful German lugers. Not long after her doubles victory, Selina Egle was disqualified in 21st place (0.982), Lisa Schulte after a fall and 30th place after the second heat.

“You can say it’s perfect,” said Madeleine Egle when asked about this in the ORF interview, after she had set the best running time twice and her sister had also won that day. “I’m super happy. At the start (in the second run, note) I fidgeted for a very short time. But it worked out.” For the sprint competition scheduled for Sunday, which she won last year in Tyrol, she was confident. The race in the men’s singles is also scheduled for Sunday.

Prock was only eleventh after a mistake at the start of the first heat, but was only beaten by Egle in the final. “I’m happy that we took another step forward. Without the mistake it would probably have been a podium.” The daughter of association president Markus Prock still saw potential for the sprint. It is also important that the current material works well: “That motivates.” Since spring, the German triple Olympic champion Georg Hackl has been working for the Austrians instead of for the Germans before.

This was probably also noticeable in the doubles. Egle/Kipp also triumphed in this new Olympic discipline for 20026 after two best times in front of the Germans Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal. Third were the Italians Andra Vötter/Marion Oberhofer (+0.233). Eleven sledges were at the start. “It’s huge,” said Selina Egle. At the end of the first heat, the two had a mistake, but they didn’t let it bother them. “We thought, just slide easily again, then it’ll be fine.”
