Crises boost domestic market for heat pumps

The operators of heat pumps feel disadvantaged because the effects of the government’s electricity price brake are too small. In any case, the demand for heat pumps is high this year. This is due to a mix of energy and climate crises, inflation and concerns about bottlenecks in fossil fuels. This is the conclusion of a survey published this week by the industry radar market observer, which belongs to the Kreutzer, Fischer & Partner network of consultants.

According to this, the revenues of manufacturers are expected to climb by almost 50 percent to 343 million euros this year – also due to price factors. According to the industry radar, demand should increase by 47 percent from 37,700 units in the previous year to 53,600 units. The proportion of air-water systems will increase from 83 to around 86 percent.

According to the industry analysis, several factors are responsible for the “run” on heat pumps. This included funding for the “Get out of oil and gas” initiative, but also the “subjective uncertainty of a shortage of fossil fuels”. Heat pumps are also the most environmentally friendly of all forms of heating, according to a broadcast.

“Although electricity prices are rising massively this year, the federal government is cushioning a significant part of the increase with the energy and climate bonus. In this respect, the general conditions are excellent that heat pumps will become the heating standard in a few years – at least in private homes,” says the market research institute .

The market is also expected to grow in the coming years. Revenue of 469 million euros is expected for 2023 and 603 million euros for 2024. Sales are expected to be 69,900 units next year and 87,000 units the year after that.

As reported, the Association of Heat Pumps Austria is not quite so optimistic.

According to industry radar, the average price for a heat pump is currently 6405 euros. Next year it should be 6739 euros, the following year 6931 euros.
