Around 100 exhibitors presented the finest handicrafts. The Advent market stalls and huts in the Prälatenhof presented themselves as uniformly as the culinary offer was diverse. Two golden angels on stilts attracted a lot of attention, especially among the children.
The next highlight follows immediately after the Advent market: Year after year, the Kremsmünster Abbey commemorates its founder, Duke Tassilo III. of Bavaria with the celebration of the donor day. On the festival day, which is celebrated on December 10 this year, Michael Haydn’s Requiem will be performed. The Gunther Vespers, which Father Gunther Kronecker once composed especially for this occasion, are sung on the evening before. This festival is probably the most original and most atmospheric of the monastery’s house festivals, starting with the decoration of the church to the musical arrangement of the liturgy. The high altar picture is covered with a black cloth – “memento mori” instead of the transfiguration of the Lord. Everything seems as if Tassilo had just died.
