It’s been a long time since Linz’s main square became a stage for around 1000 runners on New Year’s Eve. Three years after the last New Year’s Eve run, the old year is being said goodbye again this year. Peter Weinzierl from the organizing association TriRun Linz is optimistic that running events will slowly find their “old” audience again, given the 200 pre-registrations until yesterday, just under a month before the run. “We would like to fill the main square,” said the organizer.
One or two laps through the city center of Linz with start and finish on the main square have to be completed at the Hypo Silvesterlauf, which means a distance of three or six kilometers for the active people. The organizers have not changed anything on the route profile, tradition comes first.
The children’s runs are also embedded in the fun run, in which the focus is on the community experience and in which costumed runners are not only welcome, but also specially awarded (with the title of the costumed evaluation). The youngsters open the running festival in the city on the last day of the year. From 2 p.m., depending on the age group, three distances are run in the old town or on the main square (120 meters, 600 meters, 1.2 kilometers), from 3 p.m. the main run begins.
Registrations are possible at any time at www.silvesterlauf-linz.at. Late entries are possible on the day of the competition from 12 p.m. to 1.45 p.m. in the art university on the main square.
