The golden Hans turns the sports world upside down

It was hard work, but in the end Johann Anglberger (Union Lochen) made it again: The 71-year-old weightlifter from Lochen am See defended his title in the weight class up to 67 kilograms at the Masters World Championships in Orlando (Florida, USA). . After the snatch, the Innviertler was just behind the American Donald Walker, who had managed 60 kilograms, with 59 kilograms. In the clean and jerk, Johann Anglberger initially weighed 75 kilograms and thus secured second place. Walker followed suit, but the man from the Innviertel also managed 78 kilograms with ease in the second attempt. The American failed at this hurdle, but increased to 79 kilograms in the third round.

A difficult starting position, but Anglberger didn’t give in and had 81 kilograms put on to step off the stage as the winner in the duel as well. Perfectly adjusted by trainer Gerhard Hofbauer, the “Eiserne Hans” also managed this load without any problems and thus had the next gold medal in his pocket. For the Innviertler, who was also recognized as the best lifter in his age group with 363.24 points, this is the eighth gold medal at the Masters World Championships. Reason enough to no longer call him iron Hans, but golden Hans.
