One of the most popular ski touring races in the region is the annual Zwieselalm ascent in Gosau. Whereby: Annually is relative, because Corona recently gave the event a two-year break. But on Friday, December 30th, the 13th edition is supposed to take place. The start is at 4.30 p.m. at the valley station of the 8-seater jet.
Last year, the competition had to be canceled after a short-term official order, so this is the second time that the 13th edition has been planned, says Karl Posch, head of the endurance sports section of the organizer association ASKÖ Raiffeisen Gosau: “This time we are in good spirits that it works. Let’s just forget the two pandemic years.” It is important that things get back to normal and that something is done for sport, but also for fun, says Posch.
Traditionally, it’s not primarily about the fastest time on the route from the lift valley station up to the Zwieselalm prospect, where 760 meters in altitude have to be mastered. Posch: “Many non-cash prizes worth 2000 euros – from touring skis to rucksacks to climbing skins – reward the average winners. As usual, there are surprises, because you only know the average after the evaluation, so tactics are of little use.” Included in the entry fee of 24 euros: Every finisher can enjoy “Kasspatzen All You Can Eat” in the Sonnenalm, where the award ceremony will also take place from around 7 p.m.
As always, the race is a “limited edition” in that the starting places are limited to 120 due to the available space on the Sonnenalm. The rule of thumb is: Whoever registers first, serves first. Entries are only possible under the web address time2win.at/event/398.
