Yesterday, the state government appointed the winners of the state culture awards. The Grand State Prize for Culture, endowed with 11,000 euros, will be awarded twice this year for the first time. On the one hand, it goes to the filmmaker Sabine Derflinger. She works as a freelance director and has, among other things, designed documentaries about Johanna Dohnal and Alice Schwarzer and directed TV series such as “Tatort”, “Vorstadtweiber” or “Four Women and a Death”. The jury praised the “socio-political commitment” in the work of the native of Wels. Michael Hofstätter and Wolfgang Pauzenberger, who work as Pauhof architects, also received awards. According to the jury, the work of the two architects “stands out for its visionary and radical concepts”.
The state prizes for culture, each endowed with 7500 euros, will be awarded in four areas this year: Gunar Wilhelm and Sandra Gnigler (mia2 Architektur) for architecture and architecture, Siegfried Alexander Fruhauf for film and video, Judith Huemer for photography and Johannes Berauer for music.
The talent promotion awards (5400 euros each) go to: Sophia Schrattenecker and Lukas Burgstaller (architecture and architecture), Sophia Helene Hochedlinger, Marie Luise Lehner, Alexander Reinberg and Anna Christina Spanlang (film and video), Melanie Moser and Laura Sperl (photography) and Tina Geroldinger and Maria Katharina Roth (music).
The awards will be presented on December 15 by Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) in the Linz country house. “The State Prizes for Culture are an award for outstanding artistic work,” says Governor Stelzer. “They show how our country is enriched and advanced through artistic creativity.”
