Most slips occurred in the districts of Urfahr-Umwelt and Freistadt. The state fire brigade command reported on Tuesday morning that several cars had gotten into the ditch due to the slippery driving conditions. “We had to recover a total of 16 vehicles during the night,” said fire brigade dispatcher Erwin König when asked by OÖN. However, that is not an exceptional record. “The first snow always causes problems, it’s the same every year”. Also, because the snow was relatively wet, 20 trees fell on roads during the night, causing lane closures.
The Freistadt police also reported several roadblocks due to stuck trucks, for example on the B 38 from Freistadt in the direction of Sandl and on the S 10 in the direction of Rainbach. According to police spokesman Christian Schnaitter, there were no serious accidents, it was just slips.
Traffic jam in the morning
For commuters, early morning traffic to Linz has been a bit more tedious than usual. According to Asfinag press spokesman Christoph Pollinger, there was a ten-minute loss of time from Gallneukirchen on the A7 towards Linz. There was also “more intensive traffic than usual” at the Linz junction on the western autobahn, says Pollinger, who speaks of a “bad weather phenomenon”.
