The resettled lynx is a symbol of the Kalkalpen National Park, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It has been proven that three female and three male specimens live there. However, there has been a lack of offspring to secure the population for years. Therefore, the dominant Kuder will now be exchanged, announced LH deputy and nature conservation officer Manfred Haimbuchner (FPÖ) on Wednesday. The release of the new animal should take place in the coming days.
At the same time, attempts are being made to “capture the weak but very dominant lynx ‘Lakota'” in order to prevent “possible territorial competition” with the new wildcat, it said. Lakota is to be housed in the Altenfelden zoo (Rohrbach district). According to Haimbuchner, the nature conservation department will finance the new enclosure.
