Investigations are being carried out against unknown perpetrators, official spokeswoman Nina Bussek confirmed on Wednesday at the APA request. According to a report by the online magazine “Zackzack”, it is about advertisements from EVN AG, Hypo NOE Landesbank für Niederösterreich und Wien AG and the Lower Austrian state health agency.
“The investigations are still in the early stages,” emphasized Bussek. The police report is not yet available to the public prosecutor. The spokeswoman did not give any further details.
Anonymous ad
According to the media report, the investigation is based on an anonymous ad. It is claimed that the companies addressed are said to have placed advertisements at inflated prices in the magazines “Sicher in NÖ” and “Arbeiten für NÖ”. The ÖVP Lower Austria is suggested as the beneficiary. “Safe in Lower Austria” is published by Innova-Verlag, “Working for Lower Austria” by the Lower Austrian Press Association Newspaper Publishers. The ÖVP was relaxed on Wednesday when asked by the APA. “Being repeatedly nagged by random anonymous ads, published exclusively in the Alpenbreitbart online magazine – in the totally poisoned political climate that prevails at federal level, this has unfortunately become a sad part of everyday life,” said state manager Bernhard Ebner in a written statement.
“The People’s Party is a corruption problem”
The FPÖ Lower Austria also reacted to the investigations that had become public. State party and club chairman Udo Landbauer was pleased in a broadcast “that there has finally been movement in the practices that have been going on for years”. People have a right to know “what happened to their money and in which black channels of the ÖVP Lower Austria it seeped”. NEOS state spokeswoman Indra Collini made a similar statement. “The People’s Party does not have a corruption problem, it is a corruption problem. The public prosecutor’s office must now be able to investigate undisturbed and uninfluenced,” she demanded in a broadcast.
“The allegations weigh heavily,” said SPÖ federal manager Christian Deutsch, also in a broadcast. Should they substantiate and companies that are controlled by the state of Lower Austria place advertisements in party media of the ÖVP Lower Austria at massively inflated prices, “every red line would be crossed”.
Special audit by the State Audit Office
Due to allegations similar to those that became known on Wednesday, a special audit of state-related and state-owned companies is being carried out by the State Audit Office in Lower Austria. This is about suspected illegal party financing by the People’s Party. The allegations are denied by the ÖVP. There are a total of five test orders. Four relate to HYPO NOE, the state business agency ecoplus, the energy supplier EVN and its subsidiaries, and the state health agency (LGA). The fifth application includes the NÖ Energie- und Umweltagentur GmbH, NÖ Familienland GmbH, Radland GmbH, Niederösterreichische Verkehrsorganisationsges.mbH, Natur im Garten GmbH with Natur im Garten Service GmbH and DIE GARTEN TULLN GmbH as well as NÖ.Regional.GmbH .
