For her extraordinary anniversary, Kürner was visited by Governor Thomas Stelzer, who congratulated her with flowers and a Sachertorte. “It is a special experience and an honor to congratulate the oldest Upper Austrian on her birthday,” emphasized Stelzer. “Stefanie Kürner has done a lot for our wonderful country. She has seen hard times, that’s why she is also an encourager today”.
Kürner grew up with six siblings, in the family farm they still worked with horse-drawn vehicles. Her father died in World War I when she was six years old. “We got the death certificate the day my youngest brother was born,” she told OÖN on one of her previous birthdays.
