In the morning hours, a fire broke out in the roof trusses of the residential building in the Eisenbirn district – presumably when heating up the chimney. The owner tried to put out the fire himself with a fire extinguisher, reports Thomas Strasser, commander of the Münzkirchen fire brigade. When firefighters arrived, most of the roof was already on fire. 14 fire brigades with around 150 men moved in to extinguish the fire.
Still no “fire out” could be given. The fire is under control, says Strasser. The roof truss is currently being removed. The extensively renovated house with the roof structure from the 16th century has become uninhabitable.
The firefighting operation was difficult, reports Strasser. “We had to lay feeder lines up to a kilometer long,” he says. The emergency services used a drone to fight the fire. Nobody got hurt.
Eisenbirner Strasse must be completely closed for the duration of the operation. The police set up a local detour. Strasser suspects that the operation will continue into the evening hours.
