“Development is worrying”: Rendi-Wagner appeals to ÖVP state governors

The federal states had called for an energy protection umbrella for Austria analogous to the German gas price brake at the state governors’ conference in the previous week. The SPÖ wants to submit an application to the National Council next week, according to Rendi-Wagner in a letter to the heads of the ÖVP-governed countries.

Rendi-Wagner feared that gas prices for Austria’s economy and industry would be around two to three times higher than in Germany in a few weeks. “With these price differences, our economy loses a lot of competitiveness.” This development is “worrying”. “It is the task of politicians to do everything possible to ensure that medium-sized companies in Austria do not collapse.”

The SPÖ leader said that crisis management should not be delegated to the federal states. The state governors, as state party leaders, should therefore influence the National Council members of their state to agree to the SPÖ application.
