The Vöcklabruck art mill has a new owner

The history of the Vöcklabruck art mill dates back to 1465. In 1818 it was rebuilt on the Vöckla, in 1906 it was given the name “Vöcklabrucker Kunstmühle”. For a long time it was one of the largest and most modern mills in the country. However, last spring it ceased operations. The owners could not find anyone interested in continuing the business.

The non-profit housing association GIWOG has now bought the 7500 square meter site in the heart of the city centre. The Leondinger Genossenschaft not only wants to build affordable apartments on it. Offices and law firms are also to be built. We are thinking of service providers, creative professions, law firms or co-working.

Mayor Peter Schobesberger (SPÖ) is relieved. “The long period of uncertainty about the future of the art mill has weighed on many people in Vöcklabruck,” he says.

GIWOG will develop a usage concept together with representatives of the municipality. In addition, the municipal council is likely to decide on an urban planning competition on Tuesday. The concrete plans should be on the table within a year. “I worked to ensure that the Mühlbach remains,” explains Schobesberger. “The new owner has also promised me to resume electricity production.”

GIWOG boss Wolfgang Modera and Schobesberger announce “key project for urban development”. “We are creating an axis between the natural area of Vöckla and our town square. The location is ideal for the further development of Vöcklabruck,” says Schobesberger.
