Due to the new German model for a gas price brake, there is a need for improvement here – there should be no competitive advantage for German industry, said the Chancellor in the ORF “press hour” on Sunday. The measure is currently being negotiated between the finance, economics and infrastructure ministries and should be available before Christmas.
Of the announced additional 500 million euros for the expansion of the housing and heating subsidy, 50 million euros are to be reserved for measures against homelessness. “If there is a threat of evictions, countermeasures should be taken,” said Nehammer.

Nehammer sharply criticized the FPÖ leader and his criticism of the sanctions against Russia due to the Ukraine war: “What the radicalized Herbert Kickl says with his FPÖ is pure nonsense.” His statements are “equivalent to Russian war propaganda.” And: “Why we live in difficult times today is the fault of the war and not the sanctions.”

The Chancellor and ÖVP leader gives little to the current survey results, which only see his party in third place. The only numbers that interest him until the next National Council election in 2024 are the level of inflation and gas storage levels. Shares of votes are only relevant on election day. Nehammer admitted that it was “no secret” that it wasn’t easy to be ÖVP chairman at the moment. In view of the crises, however, that is quite irrelevant. “Do you really think that a poll like this shocks me when I see it?”
