The man from Salzburg sailed 141.5 m in the second round and finished in third place behind Poland’s Dawid Kubacki, who is in top form, and only 0.9 points behind Slovenia’s Anze Lanisek.
Third victory for Kubacki
Thanks to a 143 m flight, Kubacki extended his clear half-time lead to 25.7 points on Lanisek. This trio is still ahead in the overall World Cup, for Kubacki it was already the third World Cup victory in the sixth competition of the season. He will probably be the favorite in the Four Hills Tournament after Christmas. Before that, however, Engelberg (SUI) is still on the agenda for the coming weekend.
“The last jump was very cool. I’ve been waiting for it the whole time,” Kraft said with a laugh. “Yesterday the second in mixed was also very good, but unfortunately they don’t come on the assembly line on the hill, you have to accept that,” said the three-time individual world champion. He was satisfied with the days in Titisee on the old hill. “Eighth, first, third – it was another massive weekend.”
Anticipation for Engelberg
Kraft is already looking forward to the last station before Christmas. “Engelberg is a place that I like very much. It’s always very Christmassy, the last competition before Christmas, a cool hill, I’m really looking forward to it.”
For Kraft’s long-time roommate Michael Hayböck, who the day before, together with Kraft, Eva Pinkelnig and Sara Marita Kramer, had won Austria’s first mixed World Cup ever, it was enough for a tenth place again. “Top ten is top ten.” The Upper Austrian drew positive conclusions from this in the ORF TV interview, especially since he “didn’t quite make it” in the first round. “A very cool weekend for our room,” said Hayböck. With two top tens and the mixed victory, it was one of the best weekends for him in a long time.
“It’s all close together”
Manuel Fettner, who missed his chances in the first round, ended up in 17th place. “Everything is close together. If you make small mistakes, you’re somewhere,” said the team oldie. Jan Hörl finished 24th, just ahead of Philipp Aschenwald. Daniel Tschofenig (33rd) and Markus Müller (39th) were eliminated in the first round.
