After the Kroatengasse and the Rathausviertel, the next point on Linz’s greening agenda is, as reported, the Neustadtviertel. The Linz tree planting offensive is to be continued here. In the most recent meeting of the city senate, it was decided to award the planning work for the area.
For climate councilor Eva Schobesberger (Greens), this is the “next big milestone” for greening in the city. “The Neustadtviertel is a heat pole and urgently needs more greenery and, above all, large-crowned trees for shade in order to maintain and improve the quality of life,” she says.
In addition to Lustenauer Strasse, Bürgerstrasse, Volksfeststrasse, Schillerstrasse, Scharitzerstrasse and Blumauerstrasse, the approved planning order also includes individual locations (e.g. in Starhembergstrasse).
Not part of the Neustadtviertel, but part of the planning is a single location on the Alter Markt in the old town. The implementation of the greening measures is to start in autumn 2023, according to a press release.
Next year, the motion of the Greens to introduce no-night driving zones in the Neustadtviertel will also be discussed. Due to formal legal reasons, it will not be discussed in the municipal council meeting on December 15, but only in January.
