“There are still a number of residents, we think there are four, that we have not yet been able to find,” added.
UK explosion
The explosion took place yesterday Saturday in Saint Helier, the capital of this British island, due “probably” to a gas leak, according to the police.
Rescue teams had announced this Sunday that there was virtually no hope of finding survivors in the rubble.
“It is with sadness that I confirm that our search and rescue operations are from now on recovery operations” of the bodies of victims, said the head of the local police.
With the help of dogs and experts from the south of England, Jersey firefighters spent the entire night from Saturday to Sunday searching through the rubble.

The debris removal tasks “will not last days, but weeks,” he explained.
Like many other residents, the British territory’s chief minister, Kristina Moore, said she woke up in the night to the sound of the explosion.
“We are absolutely devastated and very concerned for the people affected and those who lost their lives,” Moore told the BBC.
Jersey gas supplier Island Energy said it was working with firefighters to find out what happened.
Agents questioned numerous residents on Sunday to understand what happened.
Some neighbors had called the fire department Friday night, a few hours before the explosion, to warn them that there was a strong smell of gas, which “probably” caused the explosion, Smith said.
“It’s clear that something went wrong considering there was an explosion in a building and it collapsed,” said Paul Brown, the local fire chief.
