Forest kindergarten on a discovery tour

“Well rooted, we can now slowly learn to ‘fly’ and explore the region more and more,” says Irene Mehringer, head teacher of the Waldkinder Sterngartl. After the first three years of development of the special “Forest Children’s Group” in Sonnberg, a new cycle has begun in the association. “We now have more room for new ideas and we use them to get to know our neighbors better and build good partnerships,” reports the association’s new chairman, Renate Schernhorst.

The connections to the environment of the forest children are also very important to the Langzwettlerin, young mother and experienced project manager. That goes well with the motivation of the educational team, which this year organized two trips to nearby farms with the children. The children of the forest are also happy when forest owners again mark trees where the children are allowed to saw themselves, or release new forest areas for exploring and designing. “This year we were able to work with a storyteller and drama teacher in the immediate vicinity. And a creative sound artist designed and burned their personal power animal with our oldest children,” the educators are happy to say.

The children were also enthusiastic about the visit of the Red Cross. We are particularly grateful for the cooperation with the communities of Sonnberg, Zwettl, Kirchschlag, Reichenau, Haibach, Ottenschlag, Helfenberg and Bad Leonfelden, which make the offer possible in the first place.
