Jair Bolsonaro, more than a month after the electoral defeat: It hurts in the soul

“Some talk about my silence. A few weeks ago, if I went out and said ‘good morning,’ everything would be misrepresented, distorted,” Bolsonaro justified.

Silence

The president has remained silent and with almost no public agenda after Lula won the ballot on October 30, by a small margin, 50.9% to 49.1%.

Since then, he participated in his first official event on November 26 at a military academy.

After the defeat, thousands of supporters blocked roads and demonstrated in front of military barracks calling for an intervention by the armed forces to prevent the inauguration of the leftist leader on January 1.

Bolsonaro considered this Friday that “the Armed Forces are essential in any country in the world (…) they are the last obstacle to socialism.” The president affirmed that “the people are the ones who decide destiny.”

“Who decides my future, where I’m going, are you. Who decides where the Armed Forces are going, are you”, he added, noting that “we are living in a crucial moment, a crossroads”.

Meanwhile, while the transition progresses, Lula announced his first five ministers: Finance, Civil House (head of cabinet), Justice and Public Security, Defense and Foreign Relations.

Equipment

While, Lula Da Silva began to outline the team that will accompany him during his third presidency, including the Minister of Economy, a key position both for Brazil and for the rest of the region.

Lula decided that the future person in charge of Brazilian finances will be the former mayor of the city of São Paulo and former presidential candidate for the PT Fernando Hadad.

Fernando Haddad will be Brazil’s Economy Minister.

In addition, the next president appointed Mauro Vieira as head of Foreign Relations, a position he already held during the Dilma Rousseff government.

In a press conference at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center (CCBB), headquarters of the transitional government, the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) also announced that senator-elect Flávio Dino will be Minister of Justice, former deputy José Múcio Monteiro will be the head of Defense and the governor of Bahia, Rui Costa, will be in charge of the Civil House (head of the Cabinet).

“I need some to start working to set up the government and for the structure to start working,” said the president-elect, according to Globo News.
