KV negotiations: railway workers continue to negotiate, breweries are on strike

In the rail sector, after a warning strike 14 days ago and talks in the previous week, there are renewed negotiations in the afternoon. Both sides are basically optimistic about the conversation, but the meeting could still drag on into the night. After failed talks on Sunday, there has been a 24-hour strike at the breweries since Sunday evening. At the start of the week, the negotiations on the collective agreements for the railway workers are entering the next round. From 3 p.m., employer and employee representatives will meet again. Both sides are aiming for an early agreement. However, the union’s demands are significantly higher than the employer’s offer. The negotiations could therefore last into the night.

After a 24-hour warning strike 14 days ago, there were “constructive” talks last week to explore the scope for negotiation. “We did a lot of calculations last week,” said employer circles. But the employee representatives have also recalculated their positions, according to negotiating circles. However, there must be a much better offer.

Beer brewers stop working for the second time

The Vida union recently called for a wage increase of the KV and actual wages by 400 euros. This corresponds to an average increase of 12 percent. The employer representatives recently offered 8.4 percent or a minimum increase of 208 euros. “An offer of 218 euros will certainly not be enough,” the union noted.

Both sides are therefore anticipating protracted negotiations that could drag on into the night. Ultimately, however, both sides are striving for a speedy agreement. Another hearing was originally scheduled for Tuesday. In any case, the union rules out the conclusion of the KV negotiations on Monday, since the union members still have to vote on Wednesday and Thursday, Vida said.

The brewers negotiated for several hours on Sunday afternoon, but no agreement could be reached. The strike announced on Saturday began as planned at 10 p.m. This is initially scheduled for 24 hours, but an extension is possible, according to the PRO-GE union. Most recently, the workers’ demand was a wage increase of 10 percent, while the employers are offering 7 percent. The next meeting is scheduled for December 21st.
