For the first time, The Wall Street Journal will be run by a woman

This designation will make her the first woman to lead the editorial staff of the American financial daily known as “The Journal”, the newspaper stressed in a statement.

“Among his achievements is the outlet’s coverage of the pandemic, which began early in his tenure, including a widely read article examining the British government’s failures in preventing the spread of the virus,” the newspaper noted.

The CEO of News Corp – the newspaper’s parent company – Robert Thomson described Tucker as a “brilliant and inspiring editor, with digital ingenuity and the highest standards of integrity.”

“His global vision and experience will be especially important at a time of immense international opportunity for The Wall Street Journal,” Thomson was quoted as saying by CNN television.

Murray, who has been the Journal’s top editor since 2018, will help Tucker transition through March and then begin a new senior role at News Corp, the company said.
