As the volunteer fire brigade of the city of Wels informed, a fire alarm was triggered in the school at lunchtime. By 1 p.m., crews were on the scene.
A wing of the school building containing an EDP classroom with two dozen computers was heavily smoked. There, an air conditioner was installed in a false ceiling to cool the room. This device appears to have caught fire.
The building had to be evacuated. The students stood in the freezing cold with only their slippers on. Nevertheless, the evacuation of the school was disciplined and worked without any problems, praise the emergency services.
After the extinguishing work, ventilation measures and the repair of the water damage were necessary. The operation was completed around 4 p.m. Except for the affected computer room, the school building should be available again for lessons, it said on Tuesday. The Wels fire brigade was deployed with around 20 men.
