“It is an extremely important development that could be of great help in the fight against climate change,” said spokesman Stephane Dujarric on Tuesday in New York. He emphasized that it could still be a long time before the regular production of clean electricity using the method of fusing atomic nuclei.
“There is a crisis happening now” – so the private sector and governments should in no way slow down their efforts to cut carbon. The US government had previously announced that, for the first time, scientists had succeeded in generating more energy than they consumed by fusing atomic nuclei. In the future, nuclear fusion could possibly be used to generate electricity in huge quantities in a climate-neutral and safe manner. However, it is likely to be a long way, many years, before the process can be used commercially because of the continuing major technical hurdles.
