Otárola also announced the decision of the new president, Dina Boluarte, to declare state of emergency in the regions of Arequipa and Ica in order to “reestablish public order”.

The armed forces take control of the street
The emergency in Arequipa and Ica, which is added to the one declared in the state of Andahuaylas, will allow the armed forces to take control of internal orderin a coordinated work together with the support of the national police.
For the minister, the “constitutional responsibility to preserve the life and integrity of all Peruvians” will be in charge of these forces, in the midst of a “serious and worrying” situation for the country.
