On Monday there was a sudden outage lasting several hours in the Wels waste treatment facility (WAV). Thanks to the backup system, the customers didn’t notice anything, and the city’s heat supply was guaranteed at all times.
The WAV system was shut down around 4 p.m. because the grid on line 2 was damaged. After an immediate analysis of the damage during the night, the repair work was carried out on Tuesday morning. The system was started up again in the evening, and the generator has been connected to the grid again since Wednesday morning.
Parallel to the damage analysis in the WAV, the new hot water boiler system was started up immediately, explains eww board member Wolfgang Nöstlinger. This gas-powered system is used precisely to compensate for such failures. “Several heat generators can be fed into our network. This gives our customers this high security of supply, even if unforeseen incidents occur,” says Nöstlinger.
