Vice Prime Minister Sun Chunlan explained that the number of corona infections in Beijing is “increasing rapidly”. The streets of the capital were largely empty on Wednesday.
“Many asymptomatic people no longer take PCR tests, so it is impossible to accurately state the current number of asymptomatic infected people,” said the National Health Commission. Reporters saw around 50 people queuing outside the fever ward of a clinic in Beijing on Wednesday. Everyone in line was “infected,” one of them said. “We wouldn’t come if we weren’t.”
In view of the increasing numbers, many people are stocking up on medication. The growing demand for drugs and tests has resulted in astronomical black market prices.
