Argentinian support
On Wednesday of last week, hours after Congress decided to remove Castillo from the Pizarro Palace and swore Dina Boluarte in her place, Colombia, Argentina, Bolivia and Mexico spoke out in favor of “respect for the popular will.”
They also urged “those who make up the institutions to refrain from reversing the popular will expressed through free suffrage.”
A source from the Argentine Foreign Ministry told Télam that Argentina “was one of the first countries to express its concern over the deep political crisis that occurred in Peru last week.”

“Since the beginning of the crisis, the Argentine Republic has demanded respect for the constitutional order and democratic institutions, based on the observance of the norms and procedures provided for these cases in the Peruvian Constitution itself, in a context that has to be conducted by the Peruvians themselves”, added.
He stressed that “along with making a call for social peace and coexistence among all the actors, Argentina supports the continuity of the democratic order; likewise, and faithful to its commitment to human rights, we join the calls to respect and ensure the human rights of former President Pedro Castillo and his family”.
Crisis in Peru
On December 7, then-President Castillo tried to close Congress and establish an emergency government, a measure described in Peru as a breach of the constitutional order or a coup d’état.
In an act at the Torre Tagle Palace, the headquarters of Peru’s Foreign Affairs, Gervasi regretted that the statement from the four countries had questioned a presidential succession “carried out in strict adherence to the Constitution of Peru.”
He also said that the complaint “is not consistent with the traditional ties of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect that unite our countries.”
The diplomat also announced that Peru will continue “showing its broad willingness to deepen the dialogue, always within the framework of mutual respect and the full validity of international law,” reported the website of the newspaper El Comercio and the radio station RPP.
