Gmunden manages to balance the budget with a bang and a bang

The municipality of Gmunden expects a balanced budget for the coming year as well. The budget presented by Finance City Councilor Thomas Höpoltseder (ÖVP) at the most recent municipal council meeting provides for income of 54.6 million euros and expenditure of 56 million euros. The difference of 1.4 million is offset by reserves. The level of debt can be reduced by more than six million to 20.7 million euros. Höpoltseder’s draft received the approval of all factions. Only the planned fee increases (water, sewer, waste) were rejected by the SPÖ faction.

In view of the sharp rise in compulsory expenditure (1.4 million euros more for energy, one million euros more for salaries and pension payments), the scope is narrower than ever before. Mayor Stefan Krapf (ÖVP) spoke of the “most challenging budget of my tenure so far”.

The primary goal was not to let Gmunden become a community that was left. Because then – according to the law – the city would have been financially incapacitated by the state government in many areas – to the detriment of the clubs, for example.

In order to prevent this, the municipality is postponing a number of projects that would have been planned. For example, the construction of a multi-storey parking deck on the Michlgrund.
