The US actress wants to get involved in a broader range of issues in the future, Jolie and the UNHCR said on Friday. She had worked with UNHCR since 2001 and was appointed Goodwill Envoy in 2012.
In this role, she drew attention to lesser-known crises, most recently with trips to Yemen and Burkina Faso. Jolie said she will now work directly with local organizations to also campaign for humanitarian aid and human rights. “I will continue to do everything I can to support refugees and internally displaced people.” UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi thanked Jolie on Friday for decades of service and her commitment to making a positive difference to refugees.
