Searches in six pizzerias, in apartments, offices and at a car dealership: The results of the large-scale raid carried out by officers from the Federal Criminal Police Office in cooperation with those from the State Criminal Police Office and Italian Carabinieri on December 6 in Linz and the surrounding area are even longer to be waited for.
“The results of the investigation are now being compiled, which will take time with a total of 14 house searches,” says Reinhard Steiner, spokesman for the Linz public prosecutor’s office. As reported, a businessman from Calabria who has lived in Linz for more than 20 years is suspected of working with the Italian mafia ‘Ndrangheta.
“I have now turned on my lawyer in Italy. He should clarify what I am specifically accused of,” the accused operator of several pizzerias told OÖN. He will be cooperative and “also fly to Italy if they need me there. The Austrian Republic doesn’t accuse me of anything”.
In fact, the authorities in Austria were turned on by the public prosecutor’s office in Catanzaro, capital of Calabria. The charge: money laundering and tax evasion.
