The Vatican only identified the man on the street by his first name, Gian Pieroand his nickname on the street, wue. The other two winners were the Franciscan priest Hanna Jalloufa Syrian who works in his country, and the Italian industrialist Silvano Pedrollofor his work in building schools and providing clean water to the poor in developing countries.
Francisco presented them with the prize, a small globe of the world in a cube-shaped frame with an image of the Mother Teresa holding a child, in a ceremony at the Vatican.

In the ceremony, the Pope kissed Piero’s hand and one of the nuns of the order founded by Mother Teresa placed a flower garland around the pope’s neck. In another audience, seminarians from Rome they gave him a cake. No other special celebration was planned.
Francis was born as Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires in 1936. Next March will be the tenth anniversary of his election as head of the roman catholic churchwhich has 1,300 million faithful.
