“We really tried to tighten our belts,” emphasized Mayor Peter Schobesberger (SP). “We have not arbitrarily deleted.” The city’s Kultur und Freizeit GmbH has been hit by the savings: Expensive cultural events have been canceled, as has the sauna on Monday afternoons.
The budget was thus balanced with income and expenditure of 41.8 million euros each.
Deputy Mayor Elisabeth Kölblinger (“Each of us had to lose our feathers.”) spoke of a “string concert, unfortunately without an orchestra”. She misses about funds to advertise the Vöcklabrucker city center. “I have to swallow hard to agree to this budget,” she announced the VP’s yes to the estimate.
Stefan Hindinger (Greens) emphasized that the city, with 1.7 percent of the budget, has little leeway. However, he acknowledged that “painful measures” were being taken to structural reform.
The 2023 budget was approved with the votes of all parliamentary groups. (gh)
