“After two more than difficult years, which hit the event industry with full force, this year – thanks to full order books from spring to late autumn – was again a year like it was then,” said Wolfgang Suitner, WKÖ industry spokesman for event companies, in a broadcast .
However, the effects of the corona pandemic were still evident among the suppliers of the event companies. Some suppliers would not have survived the pandemic years, others had to cut back on their workforce. When the events picked up again in early summer, there were massive bottlenecks in event equipment and there was also a lack of staff.
The current cost increases as a result of the energy crisis are not only noticeable in the event industry when looking for sponsors for the coming year, the rise in prices is also reflected in the reluctance of customers to plan events for 2023. The increasing trend towards short-term planning is causing concern for industry experts. While the lead time for orders before Corona was usually at least half a year, many companies were confronted with customer requests of less than six weeks this summer.
Overall, after the difficult Corona years, the event industry is looking positively to the future again, according to the industry spokesman. The need to catch up and the desire for live events was clearly noticeable this year.
