Dispute with Johnny Depp: Amber Heard waives appeal process

You made the “very difficult decision” to settle the process, Heard wrote on Monday on the online platform Instagram. The 36-year-old explained that she had “lost confidence in the American legal system” and did not have the strength for another trial.

A jury in the US state of Virginia had sentenced Heard in June to pay more than ten million dollars (around 9.5 million euros) in damages to the star of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films for defamation. Depp was only sentenced to pay two million dollars in damages to the actress known for films such as “Aquaman” and “The Danish Girl”. Heard appealed the verdict.

Depp sued Heard, to whom he was married between 2015 and 2017, for $50 million in damages. The reason was a contribution by Heard for the “Washington Post” from 2018, in which the actress described herself as a victim of domestic violence. Heard did not name her ex-husband; However, Depp argued that the allegation was clearly aimed at him and had seriously damaged his career.

Heard responded with a counterclaim against the 59-year-old. The actress did not give details of the agreement reached on Monday.
