An employee of a delivery service found the lifeless people in a family home on Monday morning and informed the emergency services. The dead are a 90-year-old woman and her two sons, according to the LPD Styria.
During the investigation, the police found no evidence of a violent crime. Saturday afternoon was assumed to be the time of death.
“It is very likely that the cause of death can be traced back to the use of a mobile heating variant. The residents in the basement of the house used an emergency power generator to which they in turn had connected a fan heater. Due to the lack of fresh air supply, the house filled with toxic exhaust gases, which led to death of the three people,” according to the LPD. The public prosecutor’s office in Graz ordered the seizure and an autopsy of the corpses.
