The 30-year-old was arrested Monday morning at De Niro’s home in Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side, police said. According to TV station ABC News, she was about to pack presents lying under the Christmas tree in her bag.
NBC News reported that De Niro heard the noise in his living room and came down the stairs in his bathrobe. The burglar was known to the police because of multiple break-ins and previous arrests, said a spokesman for the AFP news agency. “The woman was (…) taken into custody, the charges are still pending. The investigations are ongoing,” it said.
Born and raised in Manhattan, 79-year-old De Niro is considered one of America’s greatest actors and has won two Oscars – for portraying boxing champion Jake LaMotta in ‘Raging Bull’ (1980) and for best supporting actor in The Mafia -Movie “The Godfather – Part II”.
