34 residents evacuated after a fire in the Schärdinger nursing home

There was a delicate fire brigade operation in Schärding this afternoon: a resident of the old people’s and nursing home had lit candles on an Advent wreath, which then began to burn. The Schärding fire brigade assumes that the dried up fir branches caught fire and set the Advent wreath on fire. When the comrades arrived at the site, heavy smoke was already coming from the fourth floor of the building. The police and the staff of the nursing home evacuated 34 residents with the support of the fire brigade. The respiratory protection team from the Schärdinger fire brigade, on the other hand, penetrated into the fire apartment when visibility was difficult. The fire in the Advent wreath was quickly extinguished with a jet pipe. To be on the safe side, the neighboring fire brigades from Brunnenthal and St. Florian also came to support the respiratory protection team of the Schärdinger colleagues.

Mild exit

At the same time, the nursing staff of the home and the Red Cross looked after the evacuated residents. The fire didn’t end well for them: Two of them had to be treated by the emergency doctor who had been alerted, but no one affected had to be taken to the hospital. A total of 74 firefighters with 13 vehicles were deployed.
