The rally fans had to wait three long years before the legendary January rally in the Mühlviertel is back on the agenda. “This is the highlight of the Austrian rally scene,” says co-driver icon Sigi Schwarz. The innkeeper from Steyrling will be Kris Rosenberger’s co-driver at the start of the only national rally championship run in Upper Austria.
The VW Polo GTI Rallye2 is looked after by the BRR team of multiple national rally champion Raimund Baumschlager. The 63-year-old from Rosenau am Hengstpass and his team not only have a few cars in the race, but will also be at the start with co-driver Pirmin Winklhofer in a Skoda Fabia Rallye RS Rallye2. “The January rally means rally roulette,” says Schwarz. From black ice, snow to dry asphalt, a wide variety of conditions are possible, which can also change quickly. Above all, this means the greatest care when selecting tires. “There are many new sections of the track this year and a strong starting field, also with some international drivers,” says Schwarz, who wants to finish in the top 8 with Rosenberger.
