Skiing operations in Upper Austria secured despite the thaw

Nothing stands in the way of skiing fun during the holidays: despite the Christmas thaw, which yesterday brought rain even at higher altitudes, the snow cover will remain on the slopes. This was explained yesterday by the operators of the large Upper Austrian ski areas on OÖN request.

The cold weather in the past two weeks has provided the perfect conditions for snowmaking, said Rupert Schiefer from the Dachstein West mountain railways. “The snow-making systems don’t run all through the season, but mainly at the beginning. We now had exactly the right temperatures to make snow in an energy-saving manner,” said the managing director of the Seilbahnholding Oberösterreich.

Good mood on the slopes

The Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm-Bergbahnen (HiWu) had also “done their jobs”, said Managing Director Helmut Holzinger: “We had a good base of natural snow, and the slope quality is excellent thanks to snow-making.” His ski area used the past cold nights in particular to create a good snow reserve.

As planned, the Kasberg starts the ski season today – with the exception of the valley run. Everything is also ready for ski enthusiasts on the Hochficht: “It’s been raining since Monday, but we have fantastic conditions and will certainly get over it well,” said managing director Gerald Paschinger. The booking situation and the mood on the slopes have already been very good in the past few weeks: “You can tell that people are hot for skiing again,” said Paschinger.
