On Thursday, December 22, the time had come: The 100,000th visitor was welcomed to the botanical garden on the Linzer Gugl – by environmental councilor Eva Schobesberger (Greens) and the new head of the botanical garden, Thomas Schiefecker. He succeeded Friedrich Schwarz in this function in November.
“The most attractive thing is the diversity of the garden”
The natural oasis in the middle of Linz’s central area, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, enjoys unbroken popularity after the sometimes challenging Corona years – and the trend is rising. “In general, the number of visitors this year was mostly above the long-term average. Ultimately, the 100,000 mark was even broken. It shows us that the colorful mix of lush natural scenery and an attractive range of programs – the Wort & Klang concerts, exhibitions, workshops as well as the children’s and relaxation/recreation offers – are very well received by the people,” says Schobesberger happily.
The natural Eldorado of more than 10,000 plant species
This year there is a record, the best visitor numbers of the past decade were written. May was a particularly strong month with more than 20,000 visitors, while October, with its mild weather, saw more than 8,000 guests. The number of group visits, especially from schools, but also from travel groups, has even exceeded the level of the years before Corona, can be heard from the Botanical Garden.
