According to ÖBB, Christmas rail traffic has started as planned

“Everything is currently going according to plan,” said a spokesman when asked by APA. This year, a particularly busy day before Christmas Eve was expected, as December 23 falls on a Friday. Over the public holidays – from today up to and including St. Stefan’s Day on Monday – there are 36,000 additional seats on ÖBB long-distance traffic. The train journeys before Christmas have already led to an increase in passenger numbers in the past few days. There has been a veritable rail boom for almost the whole year with significantly more demand for long-distance transport than before the corona crisis. The ÖBB speak of an increase of 17 percent. This also led to some frustration, as individual trains were cleared in early summer. The problem was mostly gotten under control over the summer.

Even today, the spokesman pointed out that a seat guarantee is only secured with a seat reservation. But you have “brought everything we have onto the tracks”.
