It has tradition and fits in with tradition: this year the church square of the Linz-St. Peter again on December 24th to a large living manger. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., not only can the time spent waiting for the Christ child be shortened, but a kind of object lesson is also offered.
“The lovingly designed crib and the many animals all around give an idea of what it was like in Bethlehem at the time,” says Pastor Franz indicator. At the crèche, Christmas stories are read to children and Christmas carols are sung. And the Christmas Gospel will be proclaimed several times and the most famous of all Christmas carols (“Silent Night”) will be played with guitar accompaniment.
Incidentally, the animals that will populate the crib on Christmas Eve come from the Circus Alfoni. The carers will also ask for a small Christmas donation to care for the animals.
The nativity scene in the Mariendom, which has been completely renovated because it has been carefully cleaned and restored, is also ideal for a visit to the crypt on December 24th. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. you can marvel at the 80 figures, the nativity scene and the paintings.
The work of the Munich sculptor and artist Sebastian Osterrieder is considered to be one of the largest and most important nativity scenes in the world. The twelve meter long crib was built between 1908 and 1913. Anyone who wants to see it can do so until January 8th.
