The two residents had left the house in the early evening and returned home shortly before 2 a.m. They noticed a fire in the bathroom. The man (59) and his wife (55) tried to extinguish the flames with water themselves. However, only the fire brigade managed to do this.
The couple were taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. According to the police, several candles were set up in the bathroom, but according to the residents, they were blown out. The police have therefore requested a fire expert from the State Criminal Police Office to clarify the cause of the fire.
