Temperatures can reach up to 14 degrees, according to the forecast by the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) on Sunday.
In detail: On Monday, St. Stephen’s Day, there will initially be some ground and high fog fields over the lowlands in the north, east and south-east. These often dissolve in the course of the day, but then more and more clouds become noticeable. Away from the fog, the sun will shine quite often for the time being, albeit only diffusely. From midday the cloud cover will generally increase. Towards evening it begins to rain from Vorarlberg to western Upper Austria. The snow line drops to 1,500 to 1,800 meters above sea level by the evening. The wind will be weak to moderate from the south-east to the west, in the Danube valley there will be brisk to strong winds from the west in the evening. In the morning the temperatures range from minus five to plus six degrees, during the day depending on the fog, sun and wind four to 14 degrees.
Up to eleven degrees on Tuesday
Clouds and sun will alternate until late morning on Tuesday. A few snow and rain showers are still falling, especially along the north side of the Alps and in the far north. The snow line varies between 600 and 1,000m above sea level. From midday the sun will gain the upper hand more and more, only in the west cloud fields will appear again in the afternoon. The wind blows weak to moderate, also brisk in the east, from west to north. The early temperatures are between minus two and plus seven degrees, the afternoon temperatures between three and eleven degrees.
Fog fields and sun on Wednesday
On Wednesday mostly calm and friendly weather is to be expected with a westerly high-level current and high-pressure influence close to the ground. The sun is shining in many places, but there are also a few dense patches of fog, especially in the southern basins. In the course of the day, there will also be a few heavier patches of cloud from the west, but there will be no precipitation. The wind blows weakly, on the eastern edge of the Alps it also picks up a bit from the southeast to the south. From minus seven to plus one degree in the morning, temperatures rise to between one and nine degrees.
On Thursday, the high-level current from west to south-west will continue to direct mild air masses to Austria. Fog fields along the Danube, in Alpine valleys and in southern basins are likely to dissipate quickly, otherwise the sunshine will alternate with mostly thin cloud fields. A cold front is approaching from the west in the afternoon, and towards evening there may be the first rain showers in Vorarlberg. The wind is mostly weak to moderate from south to west. The morning temperatures are between minus four and plus five degrees, the maximum daily temperatures between four and twelve degrees.
On Friday there is a disturbance on the north side of the Alps. It brings denser clouds with rain at times, especially in the west and north. However, the weather usually calms down again by the afternoon, then the sunshine dominates, as before in the other parts of the country. With the disturbance there are intermittent westerly winds. Later, a slightly föhn southerly flow sets in in the west. The lowest temperatures remain at minus to plus four degrees, during the day the values usually rise to five to ten degrees.
