A 31-year-old drunk driver wanted to take a shortcut over a sloping meadow on Christmas Eve in Semriach north of Graz, but lost control of the car and jumped out while driving. While she was seriously injured, her 29-year-old passenger managed to steer the car to safer areas.
As the Styrian State Police Headquarters announced on Sunday, the 31-year-old from the Graz-Surroundings district was driving the 29-year-old’s car at around 6:15 p.m. on Eichkogelstrasse, coming from Schöckl in the direction of the valley. Suddenly she decided to take the shortcut across the meadow – a mistake, as it turned out. The vehicle skidded on the wet ground.
Apparently in a panic, the driver simply jumped out of the moving car. The owner of the car then grabbed the steering wheel and brought the car to a standstill after about 400 meters. He was unharmed. The woman’s alcohol test revealed she was drunk. The 31-year-old was cared for at UKH Graz.
