A historic town square as a perfect contrast to nature along the Enns and around the Damberg is at the beginning of this circular hike, where you will be surprised again and again throughout the year with new impressions. From the train station, follow the short path down to the Enns, which is crossed on a visually impressive footbridge made of weather-resistant Corten steel.
On the other side of the river you reach the old town and the town square. Keeping left, we then continue across the Grünmarkt to the Innerberger Stadel, a Renaissance building from 1612. Here at the town gate, turn right and down and under the road to the Enns. Follow this upstream to the railway bridge, cross it and follow the Enns on the other side to the mouth of a stream.

Here you cross the busy Eisenstraße and now follow the E 91 marking into the forest. It goes uphill, and out of the forest you reach Wohlfahrtsberg, and always following the signs it goes higher partly on side roads. The views increase, the Traunstein takes center stage and soon the Schoiber inn is reached. First the summit, then the stop is our motto. So we climb up one of the two paths through the forest to the 36 meter high lookout tower built in 1972. The view over the foothills of the Alps, into the Mostviertel and far into the Kalkalpen National Park is impressive.

For the descent we choose the other path with a short detour to the Laurenzi chapel, where the focus is on the deep view of Steyr. At Gasthaus Schoiber, the summit tour closes again, and now enjoyment is on the agenda. Then it continues downhill. Shortly after the inn we follow the path to the right in the direction of Ortisei. You hike down through forest, meadows and villages, short sections also on roads.

Before Ortisei, the path branches off to the right, and shortly thereafter a sign “Wanderweg” shows another turnoff to the left. Then comes a piece of forest in which we leave the markings after crossing a stream and continue to follow the forest path to a farm. Shortly thereafter, at a turn-off to the left, you reach Brunnerstraße and down this road you come to the first settlements and the district of Ennsleite.

Through the Josef-Fellinger settlement you come to Hubergutstraße, turn right and follow the Johann-Radmoser-Weg through a park high above the Enns. With beautiful views over the city, you finally go down steps and over a pedestrian crossing back to the multi-storey car park with the bus station and train station.

- Getting there: There are regular bus and train connections from the central area to Steyr (ooevv.at).
From Linz you can easily reach the train station in Steyr with the S1 in 50 minutes. (fahrplan.oebb.at). - Characteristic: Panoramic and very varied hike on partly signposted and marked paths. The section along the Enns and some shorter passages lead over paved side roads. The highlight is the platform on the Dambergwarte, which offers a view far across the Upper and Lower Austrian foothills of the Alps.

The town square in Steyr: The lenticular square dates back to the 13th century. The oldest house and symbol of the city is the Gothic Bummerlhaus from 1490. The Marienkirche is a baroque church from the time of the Counter-Reformation. The rococo town hall with the dominant onion tower was built around 1770.
The light-blue Sternhaus with its magnificent rococo façade is also an eye-catcher. The savings bank building from 1900 is neo-Gothic. The Leopoldi fountain was erected as early as 1683.
You should plan some time for this impressive look into the past.
