He very much welcomes the fact that the army is receiving enough financial resources to “guarantee up-to-date national defence,” wrote Van der Bellen. “Putin’s attack on Ukraine drastically showed us all that wars can also break out here in Europe and how important national military defense is.”
The Commander-in-Chief is worried about the army’s staffing. Finding enough staff will be one of the major challenges in the future. The focus must be on “high-quality and motivating training for conscripts”.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (VP) was proud of the “highest budget in the history of the army” in her daily order.
