The current Bolivian government ministerCarlos Eduardo Del Castillo Del Carpio confirmed the arrest on his Twitter account. “We inform the Bolivian people that the Bolivian Police complied with the arrest warrant against Mr. Luis Fernando Camacho.”published in their networks.
In response, The Santa Cruz government published a statement denouncing the “kidnapping” of its governor. The official message states: “We denounce before the people of Santa Cruz, before the Bolivian people and before the international community that the governor of Santa Cruz has been kidnapped, in an absolutely irregular police operationand taken in an unknown direction. The Governor’s kidnapping operation was carried out in the streets surrounding his homewhen he returned after completing management activities. At this time the whereabouts of the Governor are unknown, for which we hold the government of President Luis Arce responsible for the physical safety and life of the Governor of Santa Cruz”.

Leader of the opposition alliance Creemos, Camacho is accused of terrorism for the 36-day strike and had been summoned by the Senate to answer questions on the premises, but did not appear, for which he was threatened with another criminal complaint. The governor’s lawyer explained that shortly before the “violent operation”, Camacho had been summoned for an accusation of an alleged rape several decades ago.
