Black Wings’ winning streak ended

The Steinbach Black Wings’ winning streak has ended. After three successes en suite, the Linz ice hockey cracks had to bow to the Vienna Capitals 1:2 (0:1, 0:0, 1:0/0:1) after extra time. In front of a remarkable crowd (4950 fans), Radek Prokes made it clear after exactly 61:35 minutes with a majority – Daine Todd was in the penalty box because of a stick hit. The EHC took a not undeserved point that Graham Knott secured at the end of regular time (57th). For the first triumph in the capital since December 26, 2020, it was not enough for Philipp Lukas’ courageously fighting ensemble.

The Carinthian clubs really let off steam: Villach won 8-1 in Graz, KAC, who will receive the Black Wings tomorrow (7.15 p.m., live ticker on nachrichten.at), retained the upper hand in Ljubljana 6-1.

20 goals conceded in two World Cup games

For Austria’s U20 national team, the World Cup in Canada has so far been anything but a success story. After losing 11-0 to Sweden, it ended in a 9-0 defeat by the Czech Republic in front of 7,105 spectators at Halifax’s Scotiabank Centre. “I saw an improvement, although unfortunately the result was similar to that against the Scandinavians,” said coach Kirk Furey. The next debacle threatens on Friday night (0.30 a.m.) – against Canada. Only 20 hours later (Friday, 10.30 p.m.) the German selection is waiting, against which the ÖEHV cracks around the Black Wings trio Benedikt Oschgan, Patrick Söllinger and Lorenz Lindner calculate chances. “We have to be physically and mentally up to par,” Furey knows. Both matches can be seen in the stream on live.eishockey.at.
